Hey [~TaoFeng], can you help us understand why this is a recurring issue? 

If someone is experimenting with and without a custom grouper, couldn't they 
just maintain 2 separate instances?

I ask because:
1. The exception is preventing a critical scenario that can cause invalid 
behavior
2. Adding a config as a work around seems like a permanent solution to a 
one-off problem
