The shorter-`old` malformed-message case is recorded for a separate follow-up. The positional before-image and explicit-null regressions in this PR remain unchanged. I also tried Build for `dd51b950`: GitHub returned HTTP 422, `Actions has been disabled for this repository`, despite enabled fork permissions and an active workflow. No run was created.
