Moving the right frame's columns aside before the merge, so a chained name collision resolves, also moves the key aside when the two sides name it alike. The drop was still decided by comparing the operator's own two names, which read that case as one shared column and kept the copy. It now asks the name the rename settled on, which is the only place that knows, and covers the three shapes alike: the same name, a free name, and one that met a left column.
