After Dependabot created [https://github.com/apache/tomee/pull/847] I checked
the usage of Spring within TomEE.
It looks like the Spring 3 dependencies in the root pom are of ancient / legacy
history, i.e. they are not used in the implementation, so can probably be
removed.
