YUI library included with Wicket Extensions - DateTime (and potentially others)
is the version 2.3.0 which has compatability issues with Internet Explorer 8.
The recommended version of YUIlib which is IE8 compliant is 2.7.0.
The specific issue I hit was DateTimeField causing block on loading almost
random resources on my page, after a while IE8 reported the following error:
