It seems the problem is related to Weld (CDI):

Glassfish has it bundled with it and the wicket-examples.war provides it as
well. The versions of the bundled in GF and the one in the .war may be
different.
There are some tickets in GF issu tracker which I cannot open without an
account - https://java.net/jira/browse/GLASSFISH-18369.
