The post-processing scripts move the released artifacts from staging to dist in
svn, but they can't drop the old release until the mirrors have picked up the
new release. Therefore the script doesn't remove the old releases.
I'll consider writing a release-cleanup script that removes the build branch
and the previous release from the dist repo. But even then someone (i.e. the
release manager) needs to run the script and find time to do so.
Unless and until infra@ finds a way to have the mirrorring system sync up in
minutes rather than hours this will remain a task that happens when someone
finds time.
