On Ubuntu 24.04 that package is a stub that installs Chromium as a snap, and the snap install fails now and then on the runners, failing the job before Maven starts. Puppeteer downloads its own Chrome, so the snap was never used. The step is now the one master has had since 615af3ee95: apt-get update, then only the libraries and fonts headless Chrome needs, without recommended packages.
