Examples are present in org.apache.hadoop.examples package in MapReduce project. See http://hadoop.apache.org/mapreduce/version_control.html for checking out MapReduce project. You can go through http://wiki.apache.org/hadoop/HowToContribute to know how to contribute. Generate patch against MapReduce project and upload it to jira for review then one of the committers will have look at it and commit it. Hope this helps.
