Sure, preserving the initial System.gc sounds good to me. Feel free to post
another version.
Yeah, this is definitely a test-only issue, not a bug in the code itself.
Hopefully this solution will stabilize jenkins! If we find JVMs where
{{System.gc}} doesn't work, we might have to disable the test entirely, which
would be too bad.
