Ravi Prakash updated HADOOP-12353:
----------------------------------
Resolution: Won't Fix
Status: Resolved (was: Patch Available)
Very well then. I'm closing as won't fix. If someone wants to fix it really,
please feel free to re-open this.
This is just a bad precedent. We are putting this code in releases, we admit
there's a problem, we get patches from a new contributor (kudos Mariusz), and
we just drop the ball on accepting them.

> Current implementation of NativeS3FileSystem.java uses RetryProxy that
> retries exceptions that may occur on network communication with S3 API, but
> these exceptions must be exact instances of IOException:
> Our tests show that HttpClient throws IOException subclasses which are not
> handled by Proxy.
> Additionally, not all methods that call S3 API are listed to be handled, i.e.
> storeEmptyFile and retrieveMetadata are missing.
