I'll try to get a look at this - we had concerns that the sleeps in the tests 
were troublesome, but I copied the pattern in the existing tests when adding 
the new ones. I'm open to any good ideas about how to factor the sleeps out of 
the tests, and I'll have a think about it myself too.
