Andrew Wang commented on HADOOP-13438:
--------------------------------------
I used the typo list and exclude list for alpha1 when doing manual checking,
but it's not used by the improved {{versions}} script I'm using for alpha2. You
still need to supply the fixup file that the {{versions}} script uses to
reconcile git with JIRA, which is per-branch since it fixes up specific hashes.
It should be possible to add cherry-pick support to automatically apply fixup
information to backports, but IMO it's safer to just have a fixup file per
branch.

> The current use of the protobuf API uses an expensive code path. The builder
> uses the parser to instantiate a message, then copies the message into the
> builder. The parser is creating multi-layered internally buffering streams
> that cause excessive byte[] allocations.
> Using the parser directly with a coded input stream backed by the byte[] from
> the wire will take a fast-path straight to the pb message's ctor.
> Substantially less garbage is generated.
