Nigel Daley commented on HADOOP-2678:
-------------------------------------
This is because the precommit builds exec separate ant processes for test-core
and test-contrib. The nigthly builds run the test target which calls test-core
then test-contrib. Unfortunately, test-core may call <fail> which exits the ant
process before test-contrib is called.

> Unlike Hadoop-Patch, Hadoop-Nightly does not run the contrib tests if the
> core tests fail. Even if the core tests fail, it is useful to know if there
> has been a regression in contrib.
