I haven't received any confirmation on side-effort of this fix belongs to a
regression or not. We clean up all blockers/critical issues for 2.8.2 so far
except this one. I don't think we should wait for this one to block whole
release.
I think a safe way here is to move target version to 2.8.3. [~eepayne], if you
are comfortable to commit the patch, please land it to branch-2.8 for next 2.8
release train so we got more time for verification/discussions on side effort
of this patch.
