It's too late for the 2.9 branch; I think we need to consider whether there
will be a 2.10 with features, or whether that'll be the last branch-2 release.
I've switched to Java8 code in production source as well as tests, and while
I've been backporting some fixes to WASB recently, they've been (a) small
fixes, (b) harder than you'd expect. I'd advocate: focus on branch-2 +
features, but if you want something to go with 2.9, cut a standalone JAR for
people to pick up
