[~zhenyi]: Sorry for asking you to make 2-3 revisions for such a simple patch.
But I am not a big fan of using Preconditions.
We are creating a string even if we are not going to use it.
We can just add a basic null check instead of {{Preconditions}} and then create
a string for the exception if keyprovider is null.
Also lets wait for Xiao to come back and see whether he is comfortable to push
this patch w/o unit tests.
