Eric Charles commented on HADOOP-6671:
--------------------------------------
Hi Tom,
Yes, sounds like environment, not code, issue.
I'm used to maven, but completely new to hadoop, especially regarding the way
hadoop relies on Operating Systems functions (I see many Runtime calls in the
code).
First of all, I will try to let the common project tests work in eclipse. If I
run "ant test", all tests are successfull. But if I run them eclipse, about
half are failing. I will post on mailing list for this. I think getting the
solution for this will help to fix the TestUserGroupInformation test (working
in eclipse, but not in command line).

> We are now able to publish hadoop artifacts to the maven repo successfully [
> Hadoop-6382]
> Drawbacks with the current approach:
> * Use ivy for dependency management with ivy.xml
> * Use maven-ant-task for artifact publishing to the maven repository
> * pom files are not generated dynamically
> To address this I propose we use maven to build hadoop-common, which would
> help us to manage dependencies, publish artifacts and have one single xml
> file(POM) for dependency management and artifact publishing.
> I would like to have a branch created to work on mavenizing hadoop common.
