I followed the steps and I successfully compiled native code on macOS.
One minor comment though: brew is raising errors because it could not find
zlib1g-dev package. You wrote that the rest are optional in that step, so I'd
recommend letting it out completely. If it's not necessary, then we don't need
it - it would just cause errors, like for me. Other than that, it's +1
(non-binding).
