Eli Collins commented on HADOOP-7483:
-------------------------------------
I don't see how this is the beginning. JAVA_HOME auto-detection is orthogonal
to a java package dependency. Regardless of whether we auto-detect JAVA_HOME we
need to deal with multiple javas installed on a host - even if we create a
package dependency there may be others installed as well.
CDH has had JAVA_HOME detection for years and it hasn't been a major
maintenance mess, but that's a separate discussion.
