Arun C Murthy commented on HADOOP-7554:
---------------------------------------

Eric, I'm fine changing mapreduce to use -P<> rather than assembly:assembly
which it uses today.

I'm not a maven expert, and frankly I only care about being consistent inside
Hadoop.

However, we should we striving to follow standards and inventing our own -
'shorter to type' isn't a good enough reason to not use existing conventions!

This would confuse the heck out of people who are 'used' to mvn assembly -
assuming that is the accepted standard in the mvn world. If not, I apologize
for wasting folks' time on this.

> Use 'assembly' rather than '-Ptar' for creating the tarball

> AFAIK assembly is the way to create artifacts - currently we use profiles
> (-Ptar or -Pbintar).
> MapReduce uses assembly via MAPREDUCE-279.
> I'd like to see a common way across the whole project. Thoughts?
