Did some digging and found out some more context:
- For CSE `uploadPart` has to have parts [uploaded
sequentially](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSJavaSDK/latest/javadoc/com/amazonaws/services/s3/AmazonS3EncryptionClient.html#uploadPart-com.amazonaws.services.s3.model.UploadPartRequest-);
- There was a request to support them parallel but it [doesn't look like
they're going to be added to
V1](https://github.com/aws/aws-sdk-java/issues/2248) and [it's on the feature
request for V2](https://github.com/aws/aws-sdk-java-v2/projects/1)
Also make sure your multi part code sets `lastPart` to `true` for CSE
otherwise you'll still get the error you mentioned above. *
