Jason Wen commented on HADOOP-15566:
------------------------------------
[~weichiu], do we have an estimation when the migration from htrace-core4 to
opentracing will be done and there fore the dependency of htrace-core4 will be
removed?
The reason I am asking the vulnerability issues brought by shaded
jackson-databind version within htrace-core4 jar:
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HADOOP-17171. Without it being fixed we
can't pass security vulnerability scan of hadoop release.
One more question: can we rebuild htrace-core4 with upgraded jackson-databind
version or by not shading it? Do you know will that work?

> The HTrace incubator project has voted to retire itself and won't be making
> further releases. The Hadoop project currently has various hooks with HTrace.
> It seems in some cases (eg HDFS-13702) these hooks have had measurable
> performance overhead. Given these two factors, I think we should consider
> removing the HTrace integration. If there is someone willing to do the work,
> replacing it with OpenTracing might be a better choice since there is an
> active community.
