   Bobby -can you cherrypick the test from trunk, apply to branch-3.3 and 
retest? I just need to know that it works. There'll be no extra review unless 
there are merge problems.
   
   There would be major merge pain going back to 3.2; I'd like to avoid that. 
If you do want to go that way, it would be a separate patch, and we'd skip the 
test changes because that is so radically different
