tried the trunk build without any patches applied; failed immediately on java
setup

cd /build/source
/usr/bin/mvn -Dmaven.repo.local=/maven -pl hadoop-maven-plugins -am clean
install
The JAVA_HOME environment variable is not defined correctly
This environment variable is needed to run this program
NB: JAVA_HOME should point to a JDK not a JRE

i'm going to propose we get that trunk build working, then branch-3.3, which is
what we will use for the next 3.3.x release
