Yes, I did face similar issues in some of the PRs. Just a hunch but I think
porting [HADOOP-18131](https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HADOOP-18131) to
branch-3.3 might help. I was in the middle of doing that, however, there were
some complexities that I wasn't aware of. Will try to port it again.
