FWIW I'm reasonably relieved it want' just me hitting it...I've been doing
java17 stuff and assumed that I'd actually got something wrong by mixing
things. I've managed to get IntelliJ into that state & it doesn't let me debug
unit tests any more. So having maven fail seemed related
