upgrading to the new hadoop splits

Hi all,
Have anyone tried to upgrade to the new hadoop splits? I was trying to start 
the hdfs and I keep getting this error:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: 
org/apache/hadoop/hdfs/server/namenode/NameNode

and then this error when it tries to start every node:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: 
org/apache/hadoop/hdfs/server/datanode/DataNode
