i think they were simon's words but i snipped too much context (sorry).
they were meant to refer only to tomcat 5.x.

yeh - with tomcat 4.x and 3.x putting complete libraries (full JCL plus
log4j) in the top classloader was usually the quickest way of getting
stuff working. looks like it won't work very well for tomcat 5.x
(though).
