Yep, I was voted on and tested out adding a blank line to a file and it

Depends on what the vote was when you joined. If there was no vote,
and you just got sandbox access because you were already in ASF then
we need to vote on you ;-) If you got voted on, then you should have
commit rights.
You could try making a small commit (add or remove a space to a file)
and see if it works.
