Yes, it first appeared in httpclient. I remember it extremely well, since I spent 1 week bitching about it (since at that point in time, it was yet-another-logging API). To his credit, Rodney made it separate from httpclient. Quite frankly, I think all these logging are extremely similar, the main difference being the interface names.
