I'm going away this weekend, so I'm not going to get time to think about or incorporate this until sometime next week. Having said that, part of me would like to get it into commons validator first - others could then contributing/apply patches if they wanted and it wouldn't be just me doing the work :-) Anyway, thanks for your input.
