A lot of work has clearly gone into the attached code. However I don't really understand what the purpose of it is. Could you please subscribe to the commons-dev@jakarta.apache.org email list, and send a summary of what this code achieves, so that we can all discuss this patch? Note that when posting to commons-dev, the email subject should start with [digester]. If you can't subscribe for some reason, then an alternative is to post comments to this entry. However for involved discussions, using a web interface can be awkward.. I am concerned about the significant complexity of the code (as will other digester maintainers), and so would like to understand what benefits users would gain by having this CallFactoryMethodRule available....
