I think we all agree that the matrix API needs work and I would prefer not to hold the 1.1 release until we have worked out what will have to be 2.0 changes. So, I propose that for 1.1, we simply remove the new methods from the interfaces, but leave them in the implementations. If there are no objections, I will do that so we can move the release along.
I agree with Stephen that 1) we can't make incompatible changes in a 1.x release and 2) we should try to avoid introducing incompatible changes (to existing classes / interfaces) even in 2.0. I agree with Rodrigo and others, though, that the linear package needs to be improved. Lets pick this discussion back up once we have 1.1 out.
