Was the removal of 'maven.compile.source' necessary to compile with the JDK 1.3 ? Without this property the project can't be compiled with Java 5, I get the following error :

java:compile:
[echo] Compiling to F:\dev\configuration/target/classes
[javac] Compiling 53 source files to F:\dev\configuration\target\classes
[javac] javac: target release 1.3 conflicts with default source release 1.5

That would be nice to find a trick working for all JDKs (after the 1.2 release).
