I missed a bit. There's a whole chain of super-poms that are there. svn co http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/jakarta/commons/proper/commons-parent/trunk/ commons-parent cd commons-parent mvn install cd .. if that complains about the apache pom not being there, then: svn co http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/maven/pom/trunk/asf/ asf-pom cd asf-pom mvn install cd .. and on down the chain of asf, commons, commons-sandbox, io, finder.
From your description in the other email I suspect that the latest
