maven1 repository at ibiblio has some rewrite rules so if there's no requested file, maven2 repository is used (and those rules translate between repository layouts). Or, even more, maven2 repo is always used, I'm not 100% sure.
The maven 2 repository is always used (the directory listing in the m1 repo is completely outdated). To find an artifact you can use http://www.mvnrepository.com/ http://www.mvnrepository.com/artifact/junit/junit Arnaud
