I really wonder what's the problem with deprecations since they don't have any influence on compatibility. I'd guess there is always a reason for deprecating something. Not doing so despite that reason is most careless IMO since you encourage users to use that commons' code despite knowing better that it is a bad choice regarding future compatibility of the user's code.
