In both cases, I believe it is OK to ignore I/O exceptions. I would not mind
seeing a warning in case of closeSocketAndStreams, though, but I can also live
without one. Anyways, feel free to provide a patch.

I do not mind checking in the patch with I/O exceptions silently ignored, if +1
from at least one committer is secured.
