"beta.gamma.com" in my opinion implies a single host, not a domain. This said, in browser compatibility HttpClient is supposed to simulate whatever stupidity mainstream browsers are capable of. I'll look into the problem and provide a fix if required. It may happen, though, that the problem has already been fixed in the post 2.0 release time frame, as we have had a similar bug report not long ago (bug #25264).
