Here's a related idea that I was going to put in its own thread, but seems close to the theme of a 10-year retrospective/contest/celebration.
I took part in a meeting last week of Open Educational Resources projects, hosted by the Hewlett Foundation -- at the end of which we had a hackfest to flesh out ideas for improving awareness and use of OERs. One idea that was popular was organizing an annual OER awards, in coordination with some existing media fest like the OXCARS, where we would recognize the best contributions that year to free knowledge and open education, with high-profile attention for the winners. This would also recognize and amplify the work of existing contests, from which it would draw finalists in various categories of content and learning. The best materials would be wrapped into a beautiful publication highlighting the world's free creative output that year. I mentioned the Commons POTY (and other lesser POTY contests) as one project worth working with and promoting. For instance, the overall OER awards could draw a few major categories of images from the POTY classification, and its finalists could automatically be entered into the overall awards each year. Thoughts welcome: http://openetherpad.org/oerawards SJ 2012/4/18 Gnangarra <[email protected]>: > but a voting event isnt going to produce any new contrbituors, its just > going to promote an image thats already been promoted. > > > > 2012/4/19 とある白い猫 <[email protected]> >> >> The voting could be carried out with the global event.
