A decent getting started section is on the books for the upcomong 2.0 release. As Martin pointed out, there are the test cases, but they can be daunting as there is several hundred of them and some of them call package access methods.
There is one example in the cvs repository in the src/examples directory with plans to add more (again, 2.0 timeframe).
