The reason we use Jakarta HttpClient is a) because that's what Slide uses
and b) because the Innovation HttpClient is under the LGPL which is really
difficult to work with (not impossible but not worth the effort for us).

Aside from that, HttpClient does everything we needed.  What features were
you looking for in particular that Innovation has and HttpClient doesn't?
