My advice. Use concrete class with the business tier, and interfaces that defines the available services.
Now if you want to use any framework, use decorators (GoF pattern) to adapt them. And use a IoC container (Spring, Avalon, etc) to hide the lookup implementation. Like that you can use EJB, Commons Commands, RMI, or anything you want without changing the iner working of your main implementation.
