There is a feature request (containing a longer discussion about this
topic) for making configurations serializable [1]. Unfortunately there
is no real solution ATM. Maybe the discussion in the ticket gives you
some ideas.
I would like to implement serialization support in a future version, but
this task won't be trivial.
