Dear All,
At least 3 million Internet users in Mogadishu and other parts of Somalia have remained offline for three days. Internet interruption was experienced from Saturday shutting most of the users during the Eid festivities. The outage has affected money transactions firms and other businesses that rely on the internet. A number of government offices have also been rendered offline. The outage follows the destruction of fiber optic wires under the Indian Ocean that connects Somalia and rest of the world. It is not yet clear when normal services will resume as businesses continue to lose thousands of dollars and communication with families and friends become almost impossible. Ministry of Telecommunication says the outage caused by damage to the fiber optic cables by a large ship may take more than a week to repair. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Mr. Abdirashid Ibrahim Abdirahman Somaliland
