Dear colleagues,

You are invited to AFRINIC's Internet Measurements Workshop scheduled to take 
place at Africa Internet Summit (AIS) 2019 
<https://www.internetsummit.africa/en/agenda/programme> in Kampala, Uganda. The 
two-day workshop will hold in the Lake Room, Sheraton Kampala Hotel, on 15th 
and 16th of June 2019 between 09:00 and 17:30. The workshop aims to provide 
participants with hands-on training on tools and techniques for conducting 
large-scale/distributed Internet measurements. 

The hands-on training will focus on Ripe Atlas and MLAB platforms, and will be 
facilitated by researchers and engineers from AFRINIC, RIPE NCC, and 
Measurement Lab (MLAB). 

There will also be presentations and discussions on status of Internet 
measurement in Africa as well talks related to Censorship, web and mobile 
broadband measurements. The workshop will provide opportunities to discuss and 
establish collaborations around Internet measurements research in Africa. 

The workshop agenda is detailed below:

Day 1
9.00 - 10.30:
- Introduction - State of the Internet Measurement in Africa (Musab Isah - 
AFRINIC) 
- Measuring Web Latency & Rendering performance: Observations from large-scale 
measurement  (Alemnew Asrese - Aalto University)
- On the potential of using Google AMP to promote local content in Africa 
(Amreesh Phokeer  - AFRINIC)

10:30 - 11:00: Tea Break

11.00 - 12.30: RIPE Atlas Tutorial (Jasper, Gerardo - RIPE NCC)
12:30 - 14:00: Lunch Break

14.00 - 15.30: RIPE Atlas Hands-on
15:30 - 16:00: Tea Break

16.00 - 17.30: RIPE Atlas Hands-on



Day 2
9.00 - 10.30

- Internet shutdown in Benin - an Internet measurement perspective (Yazid 
Akanho)
- Measuring Mobile Broadband (Ahmed Elmokashfi - Simula Research Laboratory)

11.00 - 12.30: Measurement Lab Tutorial  (Georgia Bullen - MLAB)
12:30 - 14:00: Lunch Break

14.00 - 15.30: Measurement Lab Hands-on

16.00 - 17.30: Preparation for the DNS Measurement hackathon (Willem Toorop - 
NLnet Labs)
