An excellent thread that I'm finally following up on. Overall I'm feeling much better about the traffic and direction here on community@ than on reorg@; now I just need to find the time to get more active...
---- About Shane ---- I worked at Lotus for a long time until getting sucked into IBM Research. I come from a testing background but do plenty of Java programming - mainly building automated tests like org.apache.qetest, but also building various XML/XSLT/XSD tools. I also tend to write documentation on the side since I'd like to see us have better overview and and user-guide style docs in general. I was the lead tester on the LotusXSL project and became one of the first committers when it was contributed to the ASF to become xml-xalan. I feel very lucky to get paid to work on xml-xalan - even if it's only part-time at my job. I try to also answer questions on the xalan and [EMAIL PROTECTED] lists and occasionally keep tabs on [EMAIL PROTECTED] and assorted xml projects, and listen in on [EMAIL PROTECTED] I proposed the formation of the xml-commons project, which has great promise for the future even if it has been somewhat slow to take off. I plan to forrest-ize it's documentation soon, hopefully before ApacheCon so I can give feedback to the forrest folks then. It's both the overall goals and quality software at the ASF as well as some of the exciting XML-driven systems that we're building that inspires me to spend extra (i.e. non-work) time working here. Oh: I am an ASF member. I live in the greater Boston, MA, area with a wife and two cats. I look forward to being at ApacheCon Mon-Thurs. I use marc.theaimsgroup.com a lot, although I might try gmane.org soon. ---- Useful Apache Stuff I've discovered recently ---- Incubator Glossary http://incubator.apache.org/drafts/glossary.html The proposed Jakarta Newbie FAQ http://jakarta.apache.org/site/newbie.html The Forrest primer http://xml.apache.org/forrest/your-project.html Inspiration to actually build my Apache homepage http://cvs.apache.org/~crossley/ ---- A Netiquette request ---- Could folks please try to only forward relevant portions of emails? There's still a lot of whole-email forwards that take a while to wade through.
