Dear Sean,

You may be aware that I have been asking around lately about the best way to
set up a Plone site with maps in them. And I must admit I am overwhelmed by
the new terms and ideas I am still coming to grips with.

As well as the troubles of applying existing solutions I find on the web to
the current stable release of Plone (3.0.6 on zope 2.10.5).

When you said that Steve's OpenLayers stuff was not aware of zgeo.* I got
even more confused.

In my simple mind OpenLayers is the *presentation* layer, pardon the pun, of
geographical data: What it displays in its layers, it should not know or
care about.

But that is obviously wrong considering your comments. So, I am missing
something fundamental, and I would like to be pointed in the right
direction. That would also stop me from asking stupid questions....

By now I hope you will realize that I was not offended, but flabbergasted.

Kind regards,

Jan

I downloaded it from plone.org and looked at the code.

The benefit of using the zgeo.geographer interfaces is interoperability with
zgeo.atom, zgeo.kml, zgeo.spatialindex, and hopefully other packages in the
future. See

http://zcologia.com/news/644/plone-geo-interoperability/

It's like a geographic "dublincore" for Zope and Plone.

No offense intended, sorry,
Sean
