I have 2 concerns here. First, could this not obstruct the development
of SWIG-based multi-language bindings for spatialindex? You've reminded
me before about how much the wider FOSS4G community loves their swigged
bindings. Second, I'd like to be able to tag and release Rtree
independently of, and probably more often than, spatialindex. It's so
much easier to test and release Python packages.

True. I think "GIS Python" is not a significant brand. PrimaGIS,
Shapely, and Rtree have more name recognition on their own. What would
you suggest instead?
